Character Name: Hisoka Kurosaki
Species: Shinigami (formerly human)
Canon: Yami no Matsuei
Canon Point: Book 7, Chapter 19, where Hisoka stumbles acrost Muraki murdering a woman, not unlike the circumstances that lead to his own death.

Powers and Abilities:
Empath: Hisoka's empathic powers are incredibly strong, even going so far to be able to read the minute details of someone's life and their minds, as well as those they are connected to. When touched by someone feeling extreme emotions, this ability can lash out, causing physical harm to himself and others, as if cut by a blade.

Physical Strength: Despite his small stature, Hisoka is physically competent and has been known to hold his own relatively well.

Martial Arts: He has been shown to be skilled at traditional Japanese martial arts, especially Kendo and archery

Deduction/Observational: Even when he is unable to read the emotions of others, he is able to form conclusions, such as when determining when Asato was possessed by a demon. He manages to use words and actions to gain evidence, confirm proof, and create a path going forward. He's also quick on his feet and able to react as he goes.

Recovery: Hisoka is quick to heal, coming back from being completely mauled to bits and becoming almost completely healed within an hour. This allows him to come back from the brink of total death several times.

What Did Your Character Wish For? The strength to match and exceed Asato's in order to be competent and to protect those he cares about.

Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon, or who is someone they miss the most and why?

Hisoka is most bonded with Asato Tsuzuki. Besides the fact that Asato is Hisoka's partner in the judgement bureau, Asato also treats Hisoka with kindness and respect. While Hisoka struggles to accept Asato sometimes, no doubt has Asato unlocked a caring side in Hisoka. Hisoka finds himself stepping out of his shell more, and wishing to save and protect Asato innumerous times, going out of his way to know what Asato would want.


2. What are they most afraid of and why?

Hisoka's biggest fear is probably the fear of being left alone after getting the taste of what it's like to be loved and cared for, yet still treated like an individual. The thought of losing Asato to an eternal death terrifies him and he shows he cares to Asato. As a side effect, he struggles with his spiritual strength and capabilities. He wants to be strong enough to protect those he cares about.


3. What are their emotional, mental, and physical weaknesses and why?
Answer for all three.

Physically, Hisoka is susceptible to changes in temperature. His body can't handle hot or cold weather, and he fatigues easily in the heat. He also struggles with his spiritual strength in comparison to Asato. Even though Hisoka has fantastic response and recovery times, and can even perform complex Fuda spells, he feels he pales in comparison to Asato, which makes him frustrated.

Mentally, Hisoka is cold and distant to many, as he is a victim of many kinds of abuse, but especially social isolation, along with being able to empathically tell when others hate him. Even after having been around Asato for years, he still berates him and has a hard time saying nice things about Asato, struggling to show affection except for the most desperate of times. He has an agitated behaviour and will talk aggressively to control the situation.

Emotionally, Hisoka has empathic powers that force him to feel others' feelings at varying intensities and struggles to show his true emotions with it. The stronger the emotion of the other person, the more it overrides his own, up to and causing physical damage when touched by people with intense emotions. Despite being able to feel these emotions, Hisoka is cold and struggles with showing others he cares, that he doesn't know how to cheer people up or comfort them. Feeling genuine sympathy and kindness from others are emotions he doesn't really know how to handle, let alone show back.

4. What discrepancies are there between their inner self (who they feel they are) and their outer self (how they present themselves to others)?

Hisoka is pretty aware of himself and how he appears to others. Partially due to the his empathic powers. Once he discovers certain informations (such as realising he appears as a girl to a gynophobe), it gets added to his base of information to use for later. He's intentionally closed off and harsh, even if sometimes he wishes he wasn't. He's aware of his shortcomings, he doesn't put on any facades. He knows that he appears cold to others, and that's how he feels about treating them, and he doesn't seem to mind it for the most part. After all, he's not about lying, even if it's to spare someone else's feelings. Even if he struggles to show he cares, he still knows he does care. And his caring can show in his actions, the sacrifices he makes and the words he can sometimes say.

5. What would make them happiest and why?

Being able to become stronger, especially spiritually. His desire to rival Asato's abilities is not to be taken lightly. He wishes he could protect those he cares about, eliminate Kazutaka, and become someone that others could truly rely on. If he could just get the shiki that rejected Asato (a future canon point), he'd be on cloud nine.

6. What characteristics does someone need to have to be your character's ideal significant other?

The ability to make him feel special without feeling overwhelmed. He hates being pawed at, but someone who can understand and respect him while making him feel desired are the key components. He's shown being attracted to Camilla and (possibly) Asato. And if not outright attracted to Asato, Hisoka certainly respects him and wants to be around him, because of his caring behaviours and generally respectful attitude.

7. Would your character make a sacrifice to save someone else and why or why not?

Hisoka has put himself in the line of fire before. He's done it to save someone from a demon's wrath, protecting them in the bureau, and also to save his partner a number of times. He even makes hard decisions no one else would make in order to do the right thing, being willing to end another's life out of mercy. Hisoka believes in helping others, though certainly not to the extent that Asato does. He believes in doing what is right. If that's sacrificing himself to save someone, so be it. But he's not above letting what needs to happen for the greater good, happen.


8. What is one thing they would tell their younger self if they had the chance, or if your character is young, what is one thing they would want their older self to remember?

Since Hisoka's body age is stuck perpetually at sixteen, I'm going to cheat with this question.

He'd want his future self to remember that there are those who care and it's okay if you don't know what to give back, as long as he continues to try to make himself emotionally available. Someday he will get stronger in ways he never anticipated. He can support Asato in ways that matter, and continue to be a pillar for the bureau. He just has to continue looking for what he can do, and maybe he'll someday even successfully become stronger than Asato.

9. When in dire circumstances does your character fight, flee, freeze or fawn and how does that look?

Hisoka is definitely a fighter. He doesn't run away unless it's strategically sound to do so. He'd rather face the problem head-on, even if it means making difficult choices. Hisoka shows frequently in the series that he's willing to make the sacrifices necessary to get a specified end result, and do so immediately and directly. He doesn't tend to show hesitation, just an intelligence for the better direction of the course, whether that's talking it out with an overpowered enemy, or casting a banishing spell that could harm himself and the other person to stop someone from destroying their loved ones.

10. Why did your character make the wish they did?

Simply, he wishes to be able to protect others to the level that Asato can, and then to surpass it. He wants to make sure those he cares about, especially Asato, never have to worry again, and can rely on him. He wants to secure those he's come to love and have love him, because he never wants to be alone again. He just wants to give and be an equal to those who give more.
